Torrential rains and almost 6,000 homes without electricity in the Ebre

Civil Protection of the Generalitat has activated this Friday afternoon Pla INUNCAT alert by an observation notice for the intensity of torrential rain, exceeding the threshold of 40 l/m² in 30 minutes, in the Ports area, in Terres de l'Ebre.

In fact, throughout the night up to 150 l/m² have been recorded in 30 minutes in the Els Ports natural park. The rains are expected to continue throughout this Saturday.

Another consequence of this heavy downpour is the lack of electricity supply, as reported by Civil Protection. According to this morning's balance, there would be almost 6,000 affected in these regions without electricity in their homes.

The episode is expected to affect the counties of the Terra Alta, Montsià and Baix Ebre. In this area heavy downpours will be accompanied by strong gusts of wind.

From the Center for Operational Coordination of Catalonia (CECAT) of Civil Protection, this notice has already been sent to all affected municipalities, and it has been requested that all fords and flood points that pose a risk be preventively closed.

Citizens are advised to be very careful when moving around the areas that may be affected by this episode of rainfall, and also in outdoor activities.

It is necessary to avoid parking the vehicle in riverbeds or underground flooding points, and never cross rivers or streams if they come down with water, especially in areas where greater intensities and accumulations are expected.
