The Terres de l'Ebre Clinic celebrates its 75th anniversary

The Terres de l'Ebre Clinic commemorated its 75th anniversary yesterday with a ceremony at the Felip Pedrell Auditorium in Tortosa that highlighted the work of the different teams that have been part of the centre.

The event was attended by people who have worked in the center, as well as staff from the Hospital de la Santa Cruz, both municipally owned. This celebration was scheduled for the year 2020, when the anniversary was fulfilled, but the outbreak of the pandemic and the subsequent evolution due to prevention measures caused the event to be postponed.

During yesterday's act, different members and groups of the center's staff were honored, among them, the people who have retired during the last three years, and who due to the circumstances of the pandemic have not been able to celebrate retirement with the rest. of template. All of them received a gift in memory of their career from the mayor of Tortosa and president of Tortosa Salut, Meritxell Roigé, and the manager of the Clinic, dr. Salvador Pallejà: a commemorative piece created by the artist Núria Romeu, inspired by one of the most characteristic elements of the Clinic building.

A documentary was also screened that includes some witnesses linked to the 75 years of activity of the Terres de l'Ebre Clinic. This research work also has a photographic part, which nourishes a retrospective exhibition that reviews the history of the center. This exhibition can be seen on the ground floor of the Clinic starting next Monday.

Meritxell Roigé highlighted the importance of the event: «It is a thank you to the large number of people who have helped the Clinic move forward from its foundation to the present day. A task that has allowed the Terres de l'Ebre Clinic to have been and continue to be a reference center for Tortosa, the rest of Terres de l'Ebre, Matarraña and the north of Castellón, which allows us to offer a health service public of great quality»

In 1945, the Terres de l'Ebre Clinic –then known as Clínica La Alianza and promoted by the Quinta de Salud La Alianza-Mutualidad de Previsión Social– opened its doors in facilities located on calle Llotja in Tortosa. Later, due to the demographic and mutual increase, and due to the constant growth of services, in 1971 it moved to the Ferreries neighbourhood, where it continues to provide its services in the building it occupies in Plaza 1 de Octubre.

This six-storey complex became a benchmark in the territory, and until the inauguration of the Hospital de Tortosa Virgen de la Cinta, in 1976, it was the main health center for the population of Terres de l'Ebre, el Baix Maestrat and Baix Aragó.

In 2012, the Tortosa City Council acquired ownership of the center so that it would become a municipally owned public health center.
