The mayors and the accommodation sector of Vila-seca and Salou celebrate the extension of the season in PortAventura

PortAventura World will open every month of the year in 2023. This was announced yesterday by the Vila-seca and Salou resort, with the announcement of the start of the next season on Friday, February 17. In this way, the amusement park advances the opening date, which traditionally was a few days before Easter, and will complete almost 280 days a year with its doors open. The news has been received with optimism by the two town halls and the accommodation sector, who are confident that this will be a great step towards the long-awaited goal of seasonally adjusting the tourist season on the Costa Daurada.

The advance of the opening date will coincide with the premiere of the Carnival party, a thematic celebration that joins the others that are already organized the rest of the year, such as Christmas, Halloween or the Easter Celebration that premiered this Easter. It should be remembered that, between 2001 and 2003, the Costa Daurada resort already introduced this thematic celebration into its calendar, albeit in the month of March.

The company has already put tickets on sale for the months of February and March, when it will open 15 days non-consecutively, from February 17 to 21 and on Saturdays and Sundays until March 26. During those weeks, its streets will be themed as one of the most famous carnivals in the world, such as those of Rio de Janeiro and Venice, and itinerant shows, batucadas, floats and parades of comparsas will be programmed. In this sense, from the park they already work with some comparsas of the territory to organize some of the shows that will animate the streets of the park in Carnival.

During the months of February and March, the park will open on weekends

As reported by the company yesterday, with this extension of the calendar, PortAventura World expects to exceed the record number of visits recorded in previous years. Specifically, in 2023 PortAventura Park will open its doors to the public for 276 days (9% more days than this 2022), while Ferrari Land will extend its calendar for 264 days, 3% more. Likewise, Caribe Aquatic Park will also expand its opening days by 7%, exceeding one hundred.

new attraction

For David García, general business manager of PortAventura World, “the 2023 season promises to be unforgettable for all PortAventura World lovers. Not only will we start the year earlier than on other occasions to offer more and better opportunities to visit us, but we will do it in a big way with the first edition of Carnival in our history”. Another of the most anticipated news for the next season will be the new attraction that is already being built in the Far West area and that will open throughout 2023. Although not much information has been disclosed, from PortAventura they promise that it will be "something never seen". For now, the progress of the works have revealed a large warehouse and the rails of what could be a semi-covered roller coaster.

"It is very good news that PortAventura accompanies us working for a model of deseasonalizing and having tourist activity all year round", analyzed Berta Cabré, president of the Business Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of the province of Tarragona (FEHT). In this sense, she pointed out that the goal is for all establishments to be able to open ten months a year, when currently the bulk of the accommodations work between seven and eight.

key to deseasonalize

The president of the hoteliers acknowledges that “PortAventura plays a key role in having activity outside of the strong summer months. It is an excellent complement for the visitors that come and a great attraction for the destination”. In this sense, Cabré assures that events such as Halloween have already helped extend the season for many hotels, campsites and apartments in the area. "Most of them close towards the Todos los Santos bridge when before it was usual for them to close in mid-September," she points out.

The municipalities of Salou and Vila-seca have also celebrated the announcement of the extension of the season by PortAventura. «It is a very important step that an international benchmark for leisure tourism such as PortAventura makes this firm commitment to seasonality. For us it is very important because it shows that it can be done and that it can be opened before Easter”, remarked the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados. On this issue, the mayor called on the business sector "so that together we all make an effort so that all establishments, both accommodation, restaurants and shops, try to hold out as long as they can beyond the summer." For Granados, this commitment by PortAventura and an investment like that of Hard Rock, "are engines, levers that will drag the rest of the activities in our municipality, because it will mean that people come to Salou."

This is "very good news", according to the mayor of Vila-seca, Pere Segura, who stresses that "it goes in the direction of what we want from the tourism sector: to make the tourism industry permanent, constant throughout the year and that they begin to speak, not so much of deseasonalization, but of a destination of 365 days ».
