The Ibai Balloon World Cup returns to PortAventura
Two players, each dressed in a different color and with a helmet on their heads, face each other on a playing field similar to a living room. The sofa, the table, the chairs or the flower pots are obstacles. The goal is for a balloon to hit the ground before the opponent hits it. Whoever gets the most points in the two minutes of each match wins. Simple, addictive and viral: the first edition of the World Cup of this pseudo-sport, held last year at the PortAventura Convention Center, was followed by 8.7 million viewers through the Twitch channel of the popular serpentine Ibai Llanos, organizer of this event together with the company Kosmos, owned by Barça footballer Gerard Piqué
The success was so great that they will repeat the formula again and the second edition of this Balloon World Cup is already on track: it will be on October 27, again at PortAventura. Qualifiers have already been made for the final phase in Spain and Latin America and it is also planned in the United States and Canada. In 2021, 32 countries were represented and the victory went to Peru's Francesco de la Cruz, who beat German Jan Spieb in the final. The Spanish Jan Franquesa hung the bronze. Among the referees was the soccer fan Rafa Guerrero.
For this second event, which will also be broadcast on Ibai's Twitch, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru have already qualified.
