Riudoms studies increasing the frequency of buses between the municipality and Reus
Riudoms has definitively approved the Plan for Sustainable Urban Mobility (2022-2028), which will analyze the dysfunctions of the municipality's mobility system, incorporating the perception of residents, articulate strategies and planning based on sustainable mobility principles, and propose specific actions to implement the term of the plan: six years. The plan incorporates monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for the work carried out.
Within the program of actions of the document, alternatives for intercity travel are considered. The document is based on a reality: "36% of all journeys of more than 500 meters on a weekday in the Riudoms, Les Borges and Montbrió areas have Reus as their origin or destination".
The current intercity transport offer of the municipality is the bus that connects Pratdip with Reus and Tarragona and this line "has a frequency of less than one bus every 60 minutes, and only has stops on the axis of Pau Casals avenue". Improving the connection with public transport is a "strategic objective" and is also committed to "more sustainable" mobility. Within the section on improving intercity travel, there is also a study of a public transport service on demand; promote the intermodality of collective transport, with bicycles and personal mobility vehicles; and, signal and adapt active mobility itineraries for daily activity.
Other actions contemplated in the municipal plan are to improve public space and commercial activity; implement the accessibility and safety of the pedestrian network; reorganize the mobility of Pau Casals avenue; commit to autonomous, safe and sustainable school mobility; and manage and promote sustainable mobility.
