Cambrils students will help as volunteers in the Great Recapte
Cambrils announced yesterday the details of the 14th edition of the Great Recapte of Banc dels Aliments, which will take place on November 25 and 26. As a novelty, in Cambrils this year they will have the collaboration of students from the Ramon Berenguer IV and Cambrils institutes and from the Cardenal Vidal i Barraquer school as volunteers in the city's supermarkets. This is an initiative framed within community service, which is an educational action that encourages students to experience and take part in civic engagement actions.
On November 25 and 26, the physical collection of food will be carried out in different affiliated supermarkets, which in the case of Cambrils and Vinyols are Esclat, Aldi, Bon Àrea de la vila y del Port and Plus Fresco. In addition, from November 25 to December 6, monetary donations can also be made at the cash line of the establishments and on the website www.granrecapte.com.
In Cambrils, the Banc dels Aliments campaign is managed by the three entities of the food distribution network (Càritas Santa Maria, Càritas Sant Pere and the Red Cross), with the collaboration of the Cambrils City Council. A hundred volunteers will be in charge of guiding people who want to collaborate in the campaign in supermarkets, as well as transporting them to the warehouse or counting, sorting and classifying all the donated food.
In this sense, from the organization they detail that the most necessary foods are oil, milk, canned fish, cereals for lunch and children, pasta and cooked legumes. In addition, personal hygiene products such as toothpaste, shampoo, gel and compresses, household cleaning products such as laundry soap, dish soap and bleach are also needed.
It should be noted that all the products that are collected in Cambrils remain in the municipality and go directly to the 300 families that the collaborating entities serve monthly.
Inform, raise awareness and donate
The objective of the campaign is to inform and sensitize the public about the reality of food poverty in our environment, encourage food donations and, at the same time, promote continuous collaboration with Bancs dels Aliments throughout the year.
The Great Recapte of 2021, which could not be in person, collected more than 3,653,752 euros in Catalonia, which translated into food thanks to the more than 8,000 volunteers present, in addition to 3,000 collection points. During 2021, the Bancs dels Aliments de Catalunya distributed 33,683,229 kilos of food that, through 674 entities, reached 255,413 people monthly.
In the current context, with continued inflation in the basic food basket, food banks are in a very delicate situation, so this edition of the Great Recapte is going to be more important than ever.
