A man shoots his partner dead at work in Maqueda (Toledo)

A 47 year old man He has murdered his partner this Thursday, with whom he was in separation proceduresfor which he has moved to the woman’s workplace, a restaurant in a service area in Maqueda (Toledo), and, subsequently, has committed suicide about 300 meters from the event, which the Civil Guard investigates as a crime male chauvinist.

The event occurred around 9:00 in the service area located at kilometer 74 of the A-5, when the aggressor appeared at the inn where the victim worked 45 years old, which remains closed after the crime, and has shot him with a firearm.

The Civil Guard has explained that a traffic patrol received a citizen warning after hearing a detonation and, according to the mayor of Maqueda, Andrés Congosto, the witnesses thought at first that this sound was due to the puncture of the wheel of a vehicle until they found the victim.

After committing the murder, the assailant drove his car to the entrance of a road, about 300 meters from the scene of the events, and he committed suicide with a shotgun.

The armed institute has specified that there was no complaint or background in the system of gender violence.

The Judicial Police of the Civil Guard have traveled to the scene to investigate the event and, as they have indicated, everything indicates that it is a case of sexist violence because the man and the woman had maintained a romantic relationship and she had left him.

During the morning of this Thursday there have been various condemnation reactions.

The Minister of Equality and spokesperson for the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, Blanca Fernández, has denounced “this terrible and execrable sexist crime“And he explained that the viewing of the cameras near the place of the murder shows that the aggressor first shoots him one or two times and then commits suicide.

“It saddens us, devastates us and leaves us with a frustration and a terrible contained pain“, he has condemned.

The City Council of Burujón, the municipality in which the victim lived, has decreed three days of official mourning for the death of her neighbor that begins this Thursday, and has announced that the flags will fly at half-staff as a sign of mourning.

He has also called a support rally to the family and as a sign of rejection of this crime that will take place at 18:30 this afternoon in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, which has appealed to all the neighbors to attend.

The Consistory has described through Facebook the “tragic” event as an act “of utter wickedness, cruelty and pettiness” and has remembered the victim “with that joy that he always showed off”.

For its part, the Maqueda City Council is going to read a manifesto against this murder and, in the next few hours, the corporation will meet to agree on other actions to condemn this event: “We are against sexist violence. I don’t know what goes through people’s heads to do these things. It’s unfortunate,” said the mayor.

Likewise, this Friday afternoon a demonstration has been called in the Plaza de Zocodover, in the capital, to reject the sexist crime.

The mayor of Toledo, Milagros Tolón, has urged all administrations to continue working forcefully to put an end to sexist violence, while inviting all the women who feel attacked to denouncesince “in 016 there are professionals prepared to help them”.

The second vice-president of the Toledo Provincial Council, Ana María Gómez, has also condemned the sexist murder that took place on the eve of the Women’s Day celebrations, mobilizations that, she said, serve to “make visible and claim our rights , and the most important right that will never be repaired is the right to life“.

They are still between 40 and 50 women women murdered on average each year in Spain.

This crime in Maqueda is the first sexist murder in Castilla-La Mancha so far this year, and if the one in Pozuelo de Alarcón is confirmed as gender-based violence, today we should regret six victims in Spain so far this year.
